Survey on demand for migrant workers in social care. Latest guidance on employment of senior care workers from overseas

26 March 2008

In January 2008 the Border and Immigration Agency published updated guidance on changes to transitional measures regarding the employment of senior care workers from overseas.? It says that over 700 extension applications have been granted since 13th August 2007 across the UK.? The latest changes mean that the existing transitional measures will be extended to in-country change of employment applications for senior care workers and that, for those senior care workers who have had work permits approved prior to 31st December 2003, an exceptional in-country extension may be granted for a maximum of 12 months.? The Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPA) at the University of Oxford is co-ordinating international research on the demand for migrant workers in social care for older people.? UK nursing homes are invited to complete an on-line questionnaire at https://www.compas.ox.ac.uk/employersurvey.
